Warning 6492

  • Short Text: Other credential type should not be submitted for student under age 18.

  • Long Text: A student who exited, not known to be continuing, prior to age 18 and has not completed a Regular Diploma is expected to be reported as a Dropout.

  • Business Rules:

    • Logic--(1) This rule uses the age as of the exit date. (2) This rule is not run for Possible Full-Term Dropout (FTD) records.

  • How to Fix: First verify whether or not the student is under age 18 and if the student exited the school. If the student exited, attempt to find out whether or not the student transferred and is continuing elsewhere that perhaps wasn’t properly reported. If the student is under 18 and is not continuing schooling in another location, at least not of which you're aware, remove the Other value in the Credential Type field and enter an Exit Type of ODO, Other Dropout or Possible Dropout.

  • Example: District Deb notes a warning on June’s record that she incorrectly has an Other Credential Type value. Deb digs into the matter and finds that June exited Brewer’s High School May 3, but Deb never received confirmation of a transfer or a records request to prove June is known to be continuing schooling. Because June is only seventeen years old, Deb removes the Other value from the Credential Type field. Then Deb inserts ODO for June’s Exit Type to reflect her possible dropout status.
